Archetype

A company founded in 2000 by Robert Halloway in Emeryville, California, that offers a patented mass-customization software used by Land's End, Target, and J. C. Penney's. Customers input several of their body dimensions into a company's website form and then select a style. The software will find the appropriate size and in some cases a customized pattern will be executed. Land's End and J. C. Penney's have always been associated as key players in the catalog world. This business was built upon convenience and, in the twenty-first century, convenience translates into fit. The consumer no longer accepts that they are not the appropriate body type for the clothing; rather, the manufacturer must be the creator of the clothing that fits their body type. This category of software has become a necessary component of the fashion industry and continues to expand at a rapid speed.
